Music Promoter Banjo To Be Charged With Treason

Police has on Monday revealed that the renowned Music Promoter Andrew Mukasa alias Bajjo Events will be charged with Treason, chimp corps report.

In a press briefing at Police headquarters in Naguru, Police Spokesperson CP Fred Enanga told journalists that the special investigations directorate under the criminal investigations department has taken over inquiries into the case of incitement to violence through social media by the music promoter.

Bajjo was arrested on Saturday from Centenary Park in Kampala after addressing a press conference where he had announced a marathon event reportedly to raise money for Bobi Wine of the People Power pressure group.

Mr Enanga said the case for which Bajjo was arrested relates to the comments he recently made in Luganda and circulated online.

“When translated, Andrew Mukasa of Bajjo Events warns President Museveni of their plans to oust him before the year 2021, and further warns the military of similar plans to oust the president, and indicates with confidence how he had people backing him up,” said Mr Enanga

He added that the suspect consciously ran the risk of being charged for inciting violence,  or treason since the law protects the honor of the President as a democratically elected leader.

Security agencies have also warned the public and groups of people that posting videos glorifying violence using undemocratic means is an infringement on the law.

“We therefore, advise the public not to share such videos. As law enforcement agencies, we pledge to work constructively with all stakeholders to understand the dangers of incitement to violence,” said police.

Mr Enanga also told journalists that the music promoter is currently held at Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka and his file will later be taken to the directorate of public prosecutions for perusal.
