Parliament’s Leader of Opposition Hon Betty Aol has said the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change has chosen the right moment to activate its “People’s Government” activities, given the current situation of the ruling government under President Yoweri Museveni.
Mrs Aol who was speaking from her home in Gulu Municipality, said the government will find it hard getting support in the coming elections due to the works of the parallel People’s Government which was launched by FDC’s Col Dr Kizza Besigye after the 2016 general elections.
The Leader of Opposition, who represented Col Besigye at the inauguration of the Acholi regional leadership of the People’s Government said the popularity of the current government headed by President Museveni has “greatly dwindled.”
“This is the best possible time for the People’s Government,” she said.
“These regional leaders will help us mobilize people from village level up to the district structures.”
Some of the leaders elected included former Gulu Municipality member of Parliament Mr. Christopher Acire as the Regional Commissioner; and Hon. Kelly Komakech as Gulu District Commissioner.
Micheal Lakony the Amuru LC5 Chairperson was elected the speaker of the Regional government.
The elected Regional leaders were drawn from the 8 districts of Acholi sub-region.
These later took an oath before being dispersed to go to do their work.
The ceremony was also attended by Kilak South member of Parliament, Hon. Gilbert Olanya who took a swipe at ‘people Power’ pressure group for owning the Red color.
Mr. Olanya said the Red color is a sign of a struggle started in Parliament by opposition members during the Age limit debate adding that FDC members should feel comfortable wearing Red colors because it a sign of struggle.
