President Yoweri Museveni and his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta, will on Saturday 24th February 2018 commission the Busia one stop border post at the Uganda-Kenya border.
The Busia OSBP, which was completed last year is already operational, and one of the major initiatives by TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) that is aimed at facilitating trade and increasing E. African countries competitiveness in global trade.
So far Uganda, with support from development partners has constructed three major OSBPs including Mutukula OSBP with Tanzania, Busia OSBP with Kenya and Mirama Hills OSBP with Rwanda.
With the construction of the OSBPs, there has been a decrease by 50% in the average time and money that importers and exporters spend clearing goods at the borders hence improved efficiency and profits in the trade.
“All the border posts are operating under one stop control which means that transporters or travelers clear once, on one side of the border hence saving time and money,” said Amelia Kyambadde, minister for Trade during a meeting with the press today morning.
