Museveni to Officially Launch Kampala Flyover Project

President Yoweri Museveni is on Wednesday 19th December expected to officially preside over the ground breaking ceremony for the Lot 1 of the Kampala Flyover Construction and road upgrading project (KFCRUP).

The official ceremony will take place at Nakivubo Blue primary School grounds in down town Kampala.

The actual construction of Lot 1 of the KFCRUP is expected to commence in January 2019 and involves building the 0.5km clock tower flyover, widening of the Queens Way road, improvement of Entebbe Road, widening of Nsambya, Mukwano and Gaba road.

The project will also involve building of pedestrian bridges at clock tower, ShopRite and Kibuli junction and building an underpass at Nsambya.

In September 2018 Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) officially announced Shimizu-Konoike JV as the contractor of the Shs300b project.

The project will be funded partly by Government of Uganda with support from the Government of Japan through Japanese Integration Corporation Agency (JICA) and implemented by UNRA together with KCCA

Speaking at the contract awarding ceremony held three months back at the UNRA head offices, ED Allen Kagina commented that the project’s main objective was to alleviate traffic congestion within Kampala city and the greater Kampala metropolitan Area.

The project is divided in  two lots, Lot 1 and Lot 2. According to UNRA officials, Procurement for Lot 2 will commence next year, 2019 after Jinja Approves that additional funding.
