Museveni: Sports Should Hold On; What Next For the June Masaza Cup?

The fate of the return of sports hangs more in the balance after a nation address by President Yoweri Museveni held at State house on Monday evening.

During the COVID-19 presser, the fountain of honor who categorised the sports sector in the leisure economy, dampened any hopes of an early return of sports in the country insisting that the country is still at war with the virus.

“Sports should hold on with all events which gather as many people including schools, bars, worshipping places, saloons, and arcades. All these should wait to resume until when the right time comes,” he said.

The statements come at a time when all sports activities are at a standstill after Uganda went into a lock-down with an instituted curfew.

The pandemic has also ultimately led to the premature ending of the nation’s top flight football league, Uganda Premier League along with several other footballing activities.

The 2020 Masaza Cup tournament was initially scheduled for Mid-June but the latest development creates little hope for it’s kick off.
