Museveni Replaces Maj Gen Nabasa as Special Forces Commander

President Museveni who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has appointed Maj Gen James Birungi as the new commander, Special Forces Command (SFC).

Burungi, who has been serving as Chief of Staff, Airforce, replaces Maj Gen Don Nabasa.

This was revealed in a radio message sent to all army units on Tuesday evening.

Army spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire was not readily available for comment.

But an official said Nabasa is headed to China’s War College for Specialised Training.

Nabasa took over SFC Command from now Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba in 2017.

Over the years, Nabasa has commanded various units in the UPDF, starting with an Infantry Platoon in 1999, then a tank platoon in 2000, then serving as a brigade operations officer from 2004 until 2005.

He commanded a tank squadron between 2000 and 2007, then as the commanding officer of a battalion from 2008 until 2012 and as commander of a Group, from 2012 until 2016.

From 2016 until his assignment to his current position, he served as the Deputy Commander of the Special Forces Command, a division within the UPDF.

President Museveni is yet to name a new Chief of Staff for the Airforce.
