President Kaguta Museveni has given out 10 million shillings to the family of the late Alex Nyesiga Atuheire who was shot dead in Kamwezi Sub County in Rukiga district last week.
The money was delivered by the Rukiga Woman Member of Parliament Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi at the deceased’s home in Burombe, Ruhinda sub-county Rukiga district.
Nyesiga, 33, a resident of Nyakabungo village in Kamwezi Sub County was shot on Friday evening along with John Batista Nyerengye, a resident of Nkoma cell, in Nyagatare District in Rwanda.
The body of Nyerengye was handed over by Ugandan officials to Rwandan officials on Monday at the Katuna border.
The two, according to Police, were shot by Rwandan soldiers who crossed into Uganda in pursuit of Nyerengye, who was trying to cross into Rwanda with second hand clothes.
A scuffle erupted after the Rwandan officers impounded the motorcycle registration number RE736G, which the smuggler was using.
This drew protests from residents who accused the officers of illegally crossing into Uganda’s territory to conduct an arrest.
Speaking to the bereaved family and locals at Nyesiga’s home, the Woman MP Hon Kamusiime Muhwezi said President Museveni was aware and concerned about the incident and the overall well-being of the people living along the southern border.
She advised the members of the family to utilize the money sent by the president to look after the four orphans.
