Journalists in the country under their umbrella body the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) are preparing to commemorate the International Press Freedom Day, visit this yet again the Capital Kampala next week.
The event is slated for May 3 on Wednesday at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
The association President Mr Robert Kagoro confirmed that President Yoweri Museveni will preside over the event, physician although other government officials have been invited such as the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga who will be the chief walker at a march prepared for the day.
Information and ICT Minister Hon Frank Tumwebaze among other officials are also expected in attendance.
The media association which has existed since the 1960s, has commemorated this annual event only once outside Kampala according to Mr Kagoro.
While speaking to press in Mbarara on Saturday, he said he is trying to alter his trend, by pushing the UJA boundaries beyond the central region; for instance by holding regional conferences with different upcountry reporters.
He said the association has not been very active beyond Kampala mainly because of funding deficiencies.
The Press Freedom Day will be running under the theme: Critical Minds, Critical Times: Media’s Role in Advancing Peace, Just and Inclusive Societies
