President Museveni has directed the military leadership to send companies of soldiers in a secret strategy to reinforce police in countering criminality in mushrooming residential suburbs.
The move follows increased robberies and killing of eminent people in several suburbs of Wakiso District.
In Najjera where businessman Archie Rwego was stabbed to death by thugs, dozens of soldiers have been deployed to support police.
Another team of soldiers has been deployed in Kiira and surrounding areas.
“They are here to help our officers in responding rapidly to criminals,” said a police officer who preferred anonymity so as to speak freely.
In Bweyogerere, columns of soldiers patrol the suburbs at night.
President Museveni last week said he had already directed the Police to “make available to the public the telephone contacts of the nearest police posts so as to save time.”
He argues the move will enable police rapidly respond to engage criminals terrorising urban areas.
ChimpReports understands Museveni is keen on seeing the military take on the thugs if police are called upon to act.
