President Museveni has appointed former Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence boss Brig Leopold Kyanda as Chief of Staff Land Forces.
This was after graduating from the National Defence College – India, according to army spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire.
Kyanda takes over from Brigadier Tumusiime Katsigazi who has been serving in acting capacity.
The deployment comes at a time Ugandan forces are engaged in bombardments of rebel Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in DRC.
In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, Karemire said Brig Kayanja Muhanga was also appointed 2nd Division Commander after a tour of duty as Contingent Commander under AMISOM.
The 2nd Division is expected to take a lead role in the fresh Congo operation.
Muhanga commanded a military operation in South Sudan that blocked sacked Vice President Dr Riek Machar from taking power in Dec, 2015.
