Henry Ariganyira Musasizi the incumbent Rubanda East MP has been declared once again as the NRM flag bearer for the constituency.
Musasizi was declared on Friday afternoon by the NRM party electoral commission chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi at the party headquarters in Kampala.
This followed re- tallying of 16 disputed polling stations as recommended by the party elections tribunal after cancelling Musasizi’s victory on 29th September 2020.
After retallying, Musasizi was declared winner with 22,863 votes (50.3%) while his opponent Kenneth Jogo Biryabarema polled 22,635, equivalent (49.7%). with a margin of just 228 votes.
At first Musasizi had been declared winner by Rubanda NRM district registrar Monday Aggrey with 23,330 votes and Biryabarema with 22,412 votes.
Biryabarema protested the results and petitioned the electoral commission accusing Musasizi of conniving with the NRM district registrar Monday Aggrey, Gaudioza Kabondo, an official from the party’s National Electoral Commission and Dezi Christmas, the district party administrator to rig the election.
He also claimed that the registrars allowed Musasizi to sneak some of the declaration forms inside the tally centre for consideration while tallying.
After being declared, Musasizi hailed the electoral commission for deciding the winner basing on transparency. He appealed to his closest contender to reunite with him in order to ensure progress of the party.
