A law enforcement officer in Gulu is in trouble for allegedly causing serious injuries to a 31-year-old woman.
The suspect, George Kilama, who works as a law enforcement officer with Gulu Municipality allegedly kicked a saucepan with a hot cooking oil, which spilled and burned Joyce Alanyo on the head and chest.
The incident happened on Wednesday in Kanyagoga Parish in Gulu Municipality, while the suspect and other colleagues on the enforcement team were implementing the Presidential directives on fighting the spread of Covid-19.
Alanyo was rushed to Gulu regional referral hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.
The area police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed this incident, saying that a case of using excessive force has been registered against Kilama under SD 28/09/04/2020.
Okema added that the suspect has already recorded a statement and Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
When the incident hit social media, a campaign was launched to help the vcitim financially since she is a single mother.
Meanwhile, Police in Amuru have also arrested two people for assaulting a local journalist identified as Isaac Okot, working with Mega Fm in Gulu.
The two suspects have been identified as Evelyn Acan and Richard Otunga, all residents Atiak Sub-county in Amuru.
They allegedly assaulted the journalists for covering them as they opened up their churches for prayers, which goes against the Presidential directives of fighting the spread of Covid-19
Police say, their file will be forwarded to Amuru Resident State Attorney for sanction before they are brought before court of laws.
