Mulago Hospital Closed as Covid19 Sample Collection Site for All People as Cases Surge

Mulago National Referral Hospital has been closed as a COVID-19 sample collection site for all individuals as COVID-19 cases spike.

This comes after the number of COVID-19 cases rapidly shot up.

According to the communication made by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday, the hospital will only act as ab isolation and COVID-19 treatment unit for only patients confirmed to have COVID-19.

“Mulago National Referral Hospital has been closed as a COVID-19 sample collection site for all individuals. Mulago National Referral Hospital will remain an isolation and COVID-19 treatment unit for all patients who have been confirmed for COVID-19,” the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.

Today, President Museveni will meet COVID-19 National Taskforce which he chairs to address the challenge of rapid spike in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths especially in Kampala.

According to the latest COVID-19 results released by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, 64 new cases were confirmed bringing the cumulative total number of infections in the country to 2,426.

The Ministry also announced that 3 COVID-19 deaths had been recorded inflating the total number of fatalities to 25.

The 3 deaths included a 65 year old male and two females aged 70 and 65 and all the fatalities were from Kampala.

Of the 64 new cases, 60 were contacts and alerts and they included 27 from Kampala, 11 from Arua, 7 from Gulu, 3 from Wakiso, 2 from Manafwa, 2 from Adjumani, 2 from Zombo while Amuru, Buikwe, Hoima, Lamwo, Lira and Tororo recorded 1 case each.

2 health workers from Kampala, 1 returnee from Saudi Arabia and 1 truck driver who arrived via Malaba border point also tested positive for COVID-19.
