The Deputy Inspector General of Police Brig Sabitti Muzeeyi on Friday commissioned a new police station in Mukono District boosting the number to two stations in the district.
The new security facility is located in Kiwanga, Goma Division in Mukono District.
While addressing the residents of Kiwanga, the DIGP said the establishment of the police station will help in reducing crimes in the area.
In the recent past, Kiwanga and Goma area were rocked by violent crimes, especially the ‘panga and iron bar hitmen’.
The hitmen committed murders which prompted the residents to request for at least a police booth to boost security.
According to sources, Hajji Musa Kabega, the Area Chairman donated a plot of land and residents fundraised for the construction of the station.
Sabitti hailed the residents in supporting community policing and pledged to equip the station with a new police patrol.
“The joint effort in building the police station is one of the benefits of community policing in Uganda,” Sabitti said.
The DIGP ordered the area regional police commander SSP Sabila Musani to immediately appoint the officer in charge of the new station and deploy the required personnel.
The police commander urged his men to occasionally engage the community including schools to sensitize children against crimes and the new wave of kidnaps in the country.
Sabitti also advised residents to use the new police facility to report criminal cases such as kidnaps.
