Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has urged the youth to avoid living recklessly and embrace patriotism to develop Uganda, Chimp Corps report.
“I encourage the youth to avoid drugs and maintain a high level of fitness,” said Kainerugaba.
“You also need to be patriotic and defend your country against internal and external adversaries,” he emphasized.
The Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations was on Sunday speaking at the finals of Muhoozi Victory Cup at Wankulukuku Grounds off Entebbe Road.
The annual league was started in 2013 by one of Kainerugaba’s fans, Fred Mayanja.
The games are supported by the General’s office.
Kainerugaba officiated the finals which attracted hundreds of youth who participated in several games such as netball, volleyball, and football.
The Oldies football team of Kabowa, Rubaga Division, defeated Vienna Secondary school team in penalties (6-5) to emerge the winner.
The tournament attracted many teams from as far as Luwero, Mukono and Entebbe.
Kainerugaba thanked the organisers for using his name “to do good things like sports.”
He further contributed Shs 10m in cash to assist the teams in addressing some challenges of office space and maintaining the pitch.
He also promised to contact sports professionals to guide them on how to develop the tournament into a bigger league.
Winners were awarded medals, trophies, jersey uniforms and a cow.
Kainerugaba is a known sports fanatic and has previously supported national teams such as the Uganda Cranes.
