Police in Jinja have Thursday morning arrested Kawempe North MP aspirant Muhammad Ssegirinya.
Ssegirinya, a parliamentary candidate for the National Unity Platform was picked up outside the Nalufenya Police detention centre where his party president Robert Kyagulanyi was still detained since Wednesday.
The MP aspirant was grabbed by the officers while he tried to address the press outside the facility.
He was part of a small team of NUP leaders and reporters who were still camped at Nalufenya, awaiting the fate of Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine was arrested yesterday from Luuka district and detained at the facility, for allegedly faulting campaigning guidelines.
His lawyers and other party members said they were denied chance to see him.
The news of his arrest quickly sparked violent riots in different parts of Kampala and neighboring districts in which a number of people were killed.
Following the development, two other presidential candidates decided to suspend their campaign program until Bobi Wine is released.
General Gregory Mugisha Muntu and Henry Tumukunde while suspending their campaigns called in the Electoral Commission to come out and issue proper guidance for the candidates.
“We are in consultation with fellow leaders of all change forces to determine the best course of action and restore sanity for our country,” Tumukunde said.
