Mugyenzi, Kagombe Reign at 2018 Uganda Seniors Golf Championship


John Mugyenzi and Edrae Kagombe were top performers as the Civil Aviation Authority 2018 Uganda Seniors Open golf championship came to a climax on Sunday.

Mugyezi won the overall title in the men’s category with a net total of 141 strokes over 36 holes in the two day event held at the Uganda golf course in Kitante.

On the other hand, Kagombe came top in the ladies category with a return of 144 strokes beating competition from her closest opponent Grace Kabobero by just two strokes.

For the third year running, the seniors open has been bankrolled by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) who injected 25 million shillings in this year’s championship a rise from 22M last year.

Fred Bamwesigye, the deputy Managing Director who graced the closing ceremony indicated that this is one of the flagship events that mark the annual global aviation week that runs between 1st to 7th December.

” Civil Aviation Authority is honoured to sponsor this tournament once again for the third year running. We have seen good value for money. The tournament always kick starts our celebrations for the aviation week. This will be our flagship event. We remain committed to the cause of supporting sports growth like we have done in netball and chess.” He said.

“We sponsor this event as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility because many people including from the golf fraternity are our customers.” Added Bamwesigye.


Matata Onyango was the 36 hole gross winner with 160 strokes in the men’s category while Jenna Nasimolo won in the ladies category with 168 strokes.

State Minister for Works and Transport Hon.Monica Ntege presided over the two-day annual event in the company of sponsors’ representatives from CAA, RwandAir, Pepsi, Kenya Airways and Uganda Breweries.

Civil Aviation Authority will continue with the celebrations including a breakfast meeting on Thursday this week.
