Mugabe Wins Doubles As Futures ITF Pro Circuit Concludes

Uganda’s tennis seed number one Duncan Mugabe was one of the winners as the ITF Pro Circuit came to a climax on Sunday in Lugogo, Kampala.

The month long tournament played in the Futures category came to an end on Saturday at Tennis Club Lugogo.

Mugabe teamed up with Russian Anton Checkov to defeat Kenyan duo of Ismael Changawa Ruwa and Ibrahim Kibet 6-2 and 6-3.

In the semifinals, Mugabe and Checkov had eliminated Jordi Munoz- Arbeu (Venezuela) and David Perez Sanz (Spain) winning 7-6 and 6-3.

On the other hand, the Kenyan duo had ejected Darko Bojanovic (Bahrain) and Shunsuke Wakita(Japan) 6-0 and 7-6 to reach the finals.

Mugabe also took part in the Singles but could only stop at the second round suffering a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Italy’s Marco Miceli.

The singles category was eventually won by Russia’s Ivan Nedelko who beat Tyler Lu(USA) 6-4, 6-4. Nedelko extended his brilliant performance registered his third triumph in the last four futures.

The winners both in the singles and mixed doubles walked away with a cash prize of $1,500.
