The Uganda Communications Commission will soon formerly extend the National Operator License of MTN Uganda.
This follows completion of the negotiation process in which the leading telecom fulfilled all the requirements for the license renewal.
“MTN Uganda is pleased to announce the conclusion of negotiations for the renewal of its Second National Operator license which expired in October 2018,” the company announced in a statement.
“MTN has fulfilled all conditions precedent to the license, including the payment of a total sum of US$100 million as license renewal fee for a period of 12 years commencing 1 July 2020.”
MTN has been operating under the old 20-year license which it acquired in 1998.
This however, expired on 21 October 2018 and was provisionally extended to accommodate conclusion of renewal negotiations which have been ongoing for close to 2years.
The company says signing of the new License Agreement will be taking place “within the coming days”
