John Nizeyimana Kamara the Bufumbira North MP in Kisoro district on Friday caused drama at the Kisoro district council hall where the nomination of local council aspirants was ongoing, when he tried to force the nomination of Earnest Buchokoli for LCIII chairperson for Nyarubuye sub county in Kisoro district.
It all begun at around 3pm when Kamara arrived at the nomination centre and went straight to the returning officer Ishmael Atwijukire Takih and asked why they had refused to nominate Buchokoli.
“You need to stop all you are doing; I want you to nominate Buchokoli. He was here since Monday but you have refused to nominate him ” Kamara fumed.
The district returning officer Ishmael in response appealed to the MP to be patient, and explained that Buchokoli had issues regarding his area of residence.
It was then that the MP grabbed the pen from the returning officer and demanded that he stops the nomination of others and handles Buchokoli.
In response, the rest of the contestants who were waiting to be nominated turned rowdy and attacked the MP and started pulling him out.
However, police quickly intervened and Kamara was thrown out of the nomination centre and nominations resumed.
Buchokoli has been the Nyarubuye LCIII chairperson and won in the just concluded NRM primaries.
However, his opponent in the primaries Bernard Sanyu petitioned the Kisoro NRM office accusing him of not being a resident of Nyarubuye.
Subsequently, the NRM district tribunal that sat on Wednesday cancelled the win of Buchokoli as the party flagbearer and declared Sanyu who was the runner up.
