The police in Kasanda district are investigating circumstances under which the bodyguard of area MP Simeo Nsubuga shot at a man on Wednesday evening.
Wamala Region Police Spokesman ASP Nobert Ochom told ChimpReports on Thursday morning the shooting incident was reported to Kakungube police station.
“The shooting took place in Kasanda town and a man identified as Saadi Semaganda, 32, was targeted by the bodyguard of the MP at about 5:00pm under unclear circumstances.”
The victim is a resident of Bukoba village, Nalutuntu sub-county in Kasanda district.
Police said that Mr Semaganda sustained bullet injuries on the neck and was first rushed to Mityana hospital before being transferred to Mulago while in critical condition.
Nsubuga told local media that Semaganda attempted to disarm his (MP) bodyguard as the lawmaker intervened in a land conflict.
The natives are accusing the Asian investor, Alam Abid for using security forces to forcefully grab their land.
This land conflict between the natives and the investor started in 2006 when over one thousand people were evicted from five square miles’ piece of land and given to Abid for allegedly sugarcane growing.
