Rwampara Member of Parliament Hon. Charles Ngabirano was on Friday airlifted to Kampala for further medical management after surviving serious motor accident along Mbarara Kabale road.
The accident occurred in Rucheche wetland in Nyakayojo division in Mbarara municipality in the afternoon hours.
It is said the vehicle, a pickup truck developed a mechanical problem.
Ngabirano was rushing to attend the swearing ceremony for the leaders of the interim local government of the new Rwampara district.
Eyewitnesses said the land cruiser registration number UAW 381H was traveling at high speed before it lost control and overturned several times.
The legislator reportedly suffered broken ribs and was heard crying in pain by rescuers.
The regional traffic officer Rwizi region Opusi Justine said rain also contributed to the accident.
Ngabirano was shortly admitted at Mpagi private healthy facility in Nyamitanga division before being transferred to Mayanja Memorial hospital in Nyamutyobora where he was scanned and moved to Mbarara Regional Referral hospital.
Ngabirano and his wife were later airlifted in a UPDF helicopter to Nakasero hospital in Kampala for further medical management.
The driver and another occupant are said to be in good condition except the vehicle was damaged and towed to Mbarara police station.
