MP Nabilah Backs Bobi Wine Over Besigye

The Kampala District Woman Member of Parliament has declared that it is the right time for Kyadondo East legislator Robert Ssentamu to politically shine.

Ms. Nabilah made the comments a day after Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, attacked the longtime opposition leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye for failing to secure political change in the country.

Some pundits have since said it was naïve for Bobi to make such remarks against the four time presidential candidate and strongest challenger of President Yoweri Museveni.

However, according to Nabila, the opposition political terrain has already swung in favor of Bobi and it was never meant to be constantly dominated by Besigye.

“Political Space is not a deceiving mechanism that empowers a few: it’s Rotational. The power of leadership that derives from the control of Mass support is momentarily given to one leader at a time in Uganda but it is not given up forever,” said Nabilah.

To back her narrative, the Kampala strong woman revisited history of how political figures like Ben Kiwanuka, Paul Ssemogerere and others were once political darlings.

“Popular or preferred Leadership, (opposition to the status quo) has been following a certain pattern. Leaders like Ben Kiwanuka, Yusuf Lule and Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere have occupied that particular space at one time in our history. It’s an act of trust a people embark on, believing in someone else’s wisdom to administer the truth when the right moment comes,” she added.

She wondered how some Ugandans think Besigye is the only man to control the political space.

“And it’s a mystery how Ugandans bestow that honour on an individual. In the recent past,  Alhaji Nasser Sebaggala aka Seya, occupied it (1998-2006). Dr Besigye has occupied it (2006-2017). Most people old enough remember the slogan “Haji alagidde, tuwe Besigye akalulu” directly translated; The Haj has said that we support Dr. Besigye in 2001.”

Nabilah concluded by pronouncing that the “coveted” is now for Bobi.

“Fast forward today; The Brand Ambassador for that coveted position is Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine. Pop Artist turned Politician. He is the star and the rest will just settle for star dust.”
