MP Kahonda Petitions Court to Protect his Candidature

Ruhinda Constituency Member of Parliament Mugabe Donozio Kahonda has petitioned High Court seeking orders to stay the hearing of the petition challenging his candidature before disposing his main case in the same court

Kahonda says some individuals asked the Electoral Commission to cancel his candidature in Ruhinda Constituency in the coming elections on grounds that he was convicted of a criminal offence by Jinja Magistrates court and therefore he is not fit to stand for any public office.

The MP however, says he appealed in High Court challenging the sentence and the case is pending judgement

To prevent possible removal from the list of nominated Parliamentary candidates, Kahonda has now petitioned High court seeking an interim order to the Electoral body and its agents stopping it from entertaining the complaints against him until the application of interim injunction is fully heard and disposed of.

In 2017, just after he was elected MP for Ruhinda County, Kahonda was convicted on crimes of impersonation and Forgery.

He was later acquitted of uttering false document contrary to section 351 of the Penal Code Act.
