The Kanungu Woman Member of Parliament, Elizabeth Karungi has been defeated in the National Resistance Movement party primary elections held on Friday.
According to the results released past midnight by the Kanungu district NRM election officer, Karungi was defeated with a vote difference of over 20,000 by Patience Nkunda Kinshaba who polled 51,853 votes against the former’s 30,568 votes.
Karungi represented Kanungu as woman MP in the 9th and the yet to be concluded 10th Parliament.
The duo were followed by Juliet Kanyamukwara who polled 6,665 and Tumwesigye Consolanta came 4th with 4,027 votes.
Meanwhile, Judith Ntamuhanga polled 5th with 3,820 votes and Charity Mbabazi at the tail end with 513 votes.
