Bufumbira South Member of Parliament Hon Sam Bitangaro and three other people have Thursday been charged and remanded for among others, defrauding a local Sacco in Kiboga District of up to Shs 1.3Billion.
Hon Bitangaro, together with one Onyango Owor, Stella Kakuba and William Tumwiine were arrested in an operation conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit which is headed by Lt Col Edith Nakalema.
The four, now on remand at Luzira Prison were today charged with seven counts of Obtaining Money by False Pretense, Fraud on Sale or Mortgage, and Conspiracy to Defraud; all punishable under the Penal Code Act.
Hon Bitangaro, according to the Charge Sheet seen by this website, fraudulently obtained Shs 1,326,000,000 from Kiboga Tweggate Cooperative Society Ltd, by selling them land that he didn’t own.
The land in question is located in Singo and measures up to 492 Hectares.
He allegedly committed this offence in May 2014 at the offices of Onyango and Co. Advocates in Kampala.
The MP is said to have connived with one Awor Onyango, the Cooperative lawyer, who accepted the land title on behalf of the cooperative and falsely issued a land inspection report.
Months later in November 2014, Hon Bitangaro allegedly connived with officials at the Mityana District Land Office and was able to duplicate a land title for the same land in Singo which he had already sold to the Kiboga Sacco.
Meanwhile, the other two suspects Stella Kakuba and William Tumwiine are accused of obtaining Shs 1.7Billion from the same Sacco, by falsely selling them a 390 hatre plot of land located in Gomba.
The accused are expected back in court on January 6th when they’s formally take a plea.
