Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament Hon Asuman Basalirwa has called upon various organizations involved in taking care of the vulnerable to always help the needy whole heartedly without targeting foreign aid.
While participating in the celebrations held to mark World Orphans Day at Buziga Islamic Institute, Basalirwa asked all Ugandans to ensure that they are at the fore front in empowering their communities using the little resources available
This year’s celebrations attracted orphans from various parts of the country who participated in number of activities including games and painting competitions
Mr. Butanda Shaffiq who represented Hajjat Janat Mukwaaya the Minster for Gender Labour and Social development, commended Islamic Center for Education and Research (ICFER) for its work in uplifting the lives of vulnerable children especially orphans
He also noted that there are very few registered Muslim organizations in Uganda which puts those in existence at risk of closure once discovered.
It’s on this background that he asked all Muslims to ensure that they register all their entities as its laid out in the country’s law to avoid embarrassment
According to Hajji Yusuf Idris Jjemba the NGO’s CEO, ICFER together with other partners have always been inspired to organize these celebrations due to the need to bringing together all orphan children to create a platform for them to showcase their talents and skills.
“Orphans in some communities are looked at as hopeless people who are not certain of their future,” he said.
“We are celebrating this day with a sole reason of restoring hope among the vulnerable orphan children, and to help them understand that they are not the only orphans that this world has.”
