Buyaga West MP, Barnabas Tinkasimire has called upon members of the public to put on the yellow color while mourning the fallen Arua Municipality legislator, Hon. Ibrahim Abiriga.
Abiriga was gunned down by unknown assailants on Friday evening on his way back home in Kirinyabigo, Kawanda – Wakiso District.
Tinkasimire, speaking to mourners and the media on Saturday morning condemned the acts of the assassins and appealed to mourners in honour of the slain MP, to dress in his favorite colors.
“We have lost Abiriga but we will continue carrying on his burner. They accused him of wearing yellow; we should all mourn the colonel by putting on yellow throughout this period,” said Tinkasimire.
The MP said the killing of innocent people in cold blood should stop because it cannot resolve disputes.
“It is very sad on the side of legislators to lose a colleague who has been so innocent and social in the name of Hon. Abiriga,” Tinkasimire said.
“When I learnt on Abiriga’s assassination, what rolled in my mind was, why among all people would someone go for Abiriga? They could have targeted people like me who are vocal and controversial.”
The MP said that if the assassins targeted Abiriga for his opinions he expressed during the age limit debate, this was a wrong move.
“Whatever the intentions of the killers are, they are misplaced, if they are making a political statement then this is a wrong statement,” Tinkasimire noted.
