At least three more escapees from Singila Prison in Moroto, Northeastern Uganda, have been killed by security forces, Chimp Corps report.
“Three were put out of action,” said Prisons boss Johnson Byabashaija on Friday evening.
“One of the escapees was recaptured last night while two others were apprehended this morning,” he added.
This brings to four the total number of escapees shot during the joint security operation launched on Wednesday evening.
So far, nine prisoners have been recaptured since the military, prisons and police started the hunt for more than 200 prisoners who overpowered guards and broke through prison gates earlier this week.
The inmates took off with 14 guns from the armory which security forces are yet to recover.
It’s assumed most of the prisoners fled to Kenya.
Most of the escapees are warriors who were recently arrested in military operations aimed at countering cattle rustling in Karamoja.
UPDF choppers were dispatched to Moroto Mountain in a manhunt for the escapees.
