A special hire driver who was abducted from Fort Portal in Kabarole district on Christmas Eve has been confirmed dead.
It is alleged on December 24, two unidentified men approached Saidi Kakanga, a driver operating at Viz Tours Special Hire Park in the heart of Fort Portal, asking him to drive them towards Bundibugyo.
Solomon Mugisa, the area Community Liaison Officer said Kakanga’s mobile phones were switched off after he went missing.
The victim’s vehicle was later found dumped on the roadside.
Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) now says Kakanga’s lifeless body was “found in Bunyangabu,” Kabarole District.
URCS spokesperson, Irene Nakasiita says the eyes were “plucked” from Kakanga’s head while some of his body parts were burnt.
ChimpReports understands Police are yet to hold suspects in the incident but promised an in-depth investigation.
It remains unclear why Kakanga was killed.
Cases of abductions had waned following intense security operations across the country.
Kakanga’s gruesome murder underscores the need for taxi drivers to be extra vigilant in their business.
