Annie Mungoma the Chief Executive Officer of Miss Curvy pageant has asked Ugandans to always look for detailed information before condemning anything or anybody.
While participating in the discussion organized by Uganda Media Women’s Association (UMWA) ahead of Women’s day celebrations at Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala, Mungoma said many people rushed to condemn the Miss Curvy contest basing on the negative publicity it received during its launch.
Mungoma noted that, such contests like Miss Uganda, have existed and nobody had complained on how they segregate the plus size women, which was the reason the idea came up.
She further said many people are wired not to believe in women however much they struggle, pointing out that she started this pageant, but people quickly handed it to Tourism Minister Godfrey Kiwanda.
“I am the mother of this pageant but since I am a woman, many to this day believe it was minister Kiwanda’s initiative basing on the fact that he is a man,” she said.
“We have over 200 ladies who have registered and we expect to get 20/finalists from whom we shall select the overall winner. We shall remain with them and we shall teach them several issues like how to eat healthy, exercise their bodies.”
At the event, Margaret Sentamu the head of UMWA asked journalists to always focus on writing about things with a better impact to the society, and to be Gender sensitive throughout their reporting
