The Ministry of water and Environment through the Directorate of Environmental Affairs has started on the process of restoring the highly degraded Nyaruzinga Wetland in Bushenyi district.
Recently the Ministry held a ground breaking ceremony, officiated by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Water and Environment Mr. Alfred Okot Okidi, to kick start the restoration process under a new wetland restoration project that will see 64,000 hectares of wetlands and 11,000 hectares of the catchment areas restored
This project, the ministry says, is being funded by the Green Climate Fund and United Nations Development Programme and implemented by the Ministry.
It is expected that over 800,000 people in 24 districts will benefit from the project
The Ministry also held the “Building Resilient Communities, Wetland Ecosystem and associated Catchments in Uganda” 5th project Steering Committee meeting in Bushenyi district.
