Ministry of Health Records 167 New Covid-19 Cases, 5 Deaths

The Ministry of Health has on Wednesday confirmed 167 new COVID-19 cases in Uganda bringing the cumulative total number of confirmed infections in the country to 6,879. 5 Covid-19 deaths have also been recorded.

The new cases were confirmed from the 3,562 tests done on Tuesday.

“Results from COVID-19 tests done on September 22, 2020; 167 new COVID-19 cases confirmed. The cumulative confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 6,879,” the Health Ministry announced.

The new cases include 91 contacts, 64 alerts and 12 returnees.

These include 62 from Kampala, 40 from Kiryadongo, 7 from Soroti, 5 from Agago, 5 from Bundibugyo, 6 from Mbale, 4 from Gulu, 3 from Isingiro, 2 from Bududa, 2 from Jinja, 4 from Lamwo, 2 from Masindi, 1 from Buikwe, 1 from Kaberamaido, 1 from Koboko, 4 from Kole, 1 from Luwero, 2 from Mukono, 1 from Nwoya, 1 from Wakiso and 1 from Terego.

Of the 12 returnees who tested positive for COVID-19 arrived, 11 arrived from India and 1 from South Africa.

5 Covid-19 deaths have been registered; 2 were from Kapchorwa, 1 from Kampala, 1 from Mbale and 1 from Gulu.

Of the 3,562 samples tested for COVID-19 on Monday, 194 were from points of entry while 3,368 were from contacts and alerts to previously confirmed cases.


Currently, Uganda has a cumulative total of 6,879 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 2,961 recoveries and 69 fatalities.
