The Ministry of Education and Sports has signed contracts worth USD 8m with Deleronzo SPA- Italy, Venefir SRL- Italy and Eagle Scientific Limited-UK to supply the latest ICT training equipment.
The equipment is to be installed in the new workshops being constructed at 9 Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutions within the next four months.
The contracts were on behalf of the Education Ministry signed by the Permanent Secretary Alex Kakooza at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala.
The beneficiaries include Uganda Technical College Bushenyi, UTC Lira, UTC Elgon among others.
On June 16, 2020, the Ministry contracted MFI Document Solutions to provide ICT Equipment worth 4.7 billion. This was aimed at supporting ICT upgrade at 4 technical colleges and 12 networking Vocational Training Institutions in the country.
Through the Uganda Skills Development Project (USDP), the government is implementing the TVET reform process.
Uganda’s education sector has recently received a donation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) of modern equipment worth 8,000 USD to target the 12 refugee districts towards the education response plan which was developed three years ago.
Alex Kakooza, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports said that the equipment will improve data management, dissemination and monitoring of planned activities.
Dr. Clerphurs Mugenyi, Commissioner Basic Educ at the Ministry of Education also said that local governments have been using modems and their phones to do the work but this is to change due to the donation.
“Now that they have a full package of ICT equipment including a 24/7 connection to the computer, they will be able to acquire the necessary information from the MoE, UNHCR and all the partners,” he said.
