Engineer Daniel Ssebugwawo, the husband of State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, has passed away.
He was 89.
The deceased was two days away from celebrating his 90th birthday, having been born on December 22, 1934.
“It is true, Mzee Ssebugwawo is gone,” said a family friend, adding, “He succumbed to cancer and the challenges of advanced age.”
Eng Ssebugwawo was a wealthy landlord, having owned huge chunks of land in Naalya, a prime Kampala suburb.
A founding member of Nkumba University and a respected figure in Uganda’s education and engineering sectors, Daniel leaves behind a lasting legacy.
The couple’s love story began in 1963 at a family wedding, where Daniel fell for Joyce, then a young woman preparing to leave for studies in the UK.
Despite initial resistance, Joyce eventually accepted his advances after Daniel followed her to England for his own education.
They married in London in 1965 when Joyce was 19.
Their 59-year union was blessed with children and marked by shared dedication to service and development.
Tributes continue to pour in for Ssebugwawo, whose funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
