Hon Dr Jane Ruth Aceng the Minster of Health yesterday inspected the ongoing construction works of the Regional Centre of Excellence in Pediatric Surgery in Entebbe, Nakiwogo.
The regional centre under construction is a 117 billion shillings project with government contributing 20 percent.
Once complete, the new facility is expected to provide free health surgery to children with special needs at no cost.
“Government of Uganda needs to honor its commitment of 20 percent which is 7 billion Uganda shillings to complete the construction of the hospital,” said the minister.
In this financial year, she says, government released Shs 1billion for this project and that the Ministry of Finance has committed more.
Currently, works at the new hospital stands at 80 percent.
While addressing journalists at the site Hon Matia Kasaija the Minister of Finance said he was impressed by the progress of the ongoing works.
“Today together with the Health Minister, we inspected construction works of the regional hospital for pediatric surgery in Entebbe. I was impressed by the progress of the work. Let me thank our friends the Italians for the good work so far done” he said.
The 72 bed capacity hospital will comprise of 3 operating theatres, 6 bed pediatric ICU, 16 bed high dependency unit, 50 bed wards, out patient department, laboratory and blood bank, diagnostics, physiotherapy, pharmacy, Ancillary services and 40 room guest houses.
