Ethics and Integrity Minister Fr. Simon Lokodo has lost the NRM MP primaries race in Dodoth West, Karenga District.
Lokodo, a controversial figure, was defeated by Baatom Ben Koryang who previously worked as a District Community Development Officer in the same District.
Baatom emerged victorious with 2,932 votes while Lokodo came second with 2,632.
A one Daniel Lokong Ngole trailed with 1501 votes.
Several ministers have today been defeated in the primaries.
These include Mary Karooro Okurut, Elioda Tumwesigye and Adolf Mwesige among others.
For the Women MP Seat for Karenga District, the incumbent Hon Rose Akello Rose Lilly retained her seat with 12,528 votes, defeating Santina Akot who went home with 1,386.
Who is Lokodo?
At the age of 49, Lokodo first entered politics to contest a special election on 29 June 2006, following the death of the incumbent member of parliament.
He was ex-communicated from the Catholic Church by Pope Benedict XVI when he entered politics.
He won the special election and began representing Dodoth County, Kaabong District, in the parliament.
In February 2009, he was appointed to the cabinet as the Minister of State for Industry & Technology.
In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, he was relocated to the Ethics and Integrity portfolio, replacing Nsaba Buturo.
In the cabinet reshuffle of 1 March 2015, he retained his cabinet post.
He is well known for challenging homosexuality in all forms.
