Trade Minister Cooperative Hon Amelia Kyambadde yesterday paid a visit to the 27th International trade fair at UMA grounds Lugogo, where she sensitized numerous manufacturers and other exhibitioners on the benefits of the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) initiative that seeks to promote locally made products
The minister spent more time on stalls of local manufacturers whom she encouraged to improve the quality of their products to be able to compete globally
“You need to improve on packaging by using attractive and better containers instead of using these polythene bags,” she said.
Among the people she applauded was Mrs Christine Nazziwa the Managing Director of Mesha Steel for her company’s innovation.
Nazziwa started the steel manufacturing company located in Busega a few years.
She has now won numerous awards at previous expos and also expanded her customer base as well as products
Brian Byarugaba, the head of marketing for Bella Wine asked big companies and the government of Uganda to always consider local companies first wherever they are buying products and seeking services
He added that in most cases Ugandans tend to under look local products however good they may be
Byarugaba further asked the management in the next trade show to reduce the entrance charges so that more people are able to come and buy cheap products
In this year’s trade show 15 foreign companies have participated with over 120 exhibitors representing them
