Minister Intervenes as Kabale RDC Vows to Arrest NRM Leaders Campaigning for Independents

Darius Nandinda the Kabale Resident District Commissioner has threatened to arrest any National Resistance Movement leader in the district who will be found in the field campaigning for independents or opposition candidates.

Nandinda sounded the threat on Sunday during a meeting with NRM leaders from all Sub county and town councils.

Nandida’s threat was prompted by comments made by the Kaharo Sub County NRM vice chairperson Dustan Muhereza and Kate Baryayanga, the mother to the Kabale municipality MP Andrew Baryayanga Aja who publically said in the meeting that they would not campaign for the NRM flag bearers.

Muhereza said during the meeting that he had offered to back the NRM Ndorwa East flag bearer, a one Protazio Begumisa, only to be told by the candidate that his support was not needed.

Kate Baryayanga on the other hand said she could not fail to support her son who is running on an independent ticket. She however, vowed to continue mobilizing support for President Museveni.

In response to these comments, RDC Nandinda said he would not allow NRM leaders in the field who say that they cannot support NRM flag bearers but they support President Museveni.

He said such behavior does not build a strong party. People who are not willing to back the NRM candidates, the RDC said, should not be allowed on the forefront of the team campaigning for President Museveni.
