Minister Bahati Eulogizes Sheikh Kaliisa 

The State Minister of Finance in charge of Planning, David Bahati has eulogized the departed Muslim scholar, Sheikh, Dr. Anas Kaliisa, who passed away on Wednesday evening.

Bahati, in a brief statement on his social media, described the late as a distinguished religious scholar and a patriot who dedicated his energy to social development and education.

“I have learnt with sadness the death of a distinguished scholar, patriot, elder and friend Sheikh Kaliisa,” said Bahati.

The Minister stressed that Dr. Kaliisa, who was chairman of Salam Charity Foundation, positively utilized the media platforms to spread knowledge and mentor the young generation.

“We thank God for his impactful life and the many lives he touched through his teachings and knowledge sharing. He was a man full of wisdom,” said Bahati.

Bahati concluded by conveying his condolences to the family of the deceased including his young brother Kin Kaliisa, the Chief Executive officer of Next Media, which comprises of NBS TV, Next Radio and others.

The body of Dr. Kaliisa was on Thursday morning, November 5, 2020, taken to Kibuli Mosque where several personalities and political figures paid their last respects. Some of the mourners who converged at Kibuli included presidential candidates; Robert Kyagulanyi of NUP, Mugisha Muntu of ANT and Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde.

The body was later taken to Wandegeya Mosque for prayers. He is expected to be buried tomorrow Friday at their ancestral home in Nyakahita, Rwengoma, Ruhaama, Ntungamo District.

Sheikh Dr. Anas Kaliisa was the founding chairman of the House of Zakat and Waqf Uganda, a non-denominational and not-for-profit organisation.

The organisation was set up to manage and administer Zakat (alms) and Waqf or endowment in accordance with the teaching of the Holy Quran and Hadith for the social wellbeing of Muslims and development of Islam.

Kaliisa, also served as the Secretary of the Eminent Council of Sheikhs of Uganda and Chairman Muslim Jurists Uganda.
