The Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Aceng Ocero on Tuesday held campaign meetings with sections of business community in Lira City.
Dr. Aceng, who is contesting for the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament, conducted three meetings starting from Kakoge Market and proceeded to Te-Obaya market, both in Lira City West Division.
The Minister told voters that she needs a full mandate to represent the city and serve the aspirations of its people.
“I seek to go beyond my current ex-officio status to a Member of Parliament with a voice of the people and to speak for the people,” said Aceng.
Aceng, formerly Director of Lira Regional Referral Hospital and Director General of Health Services, stated that she is ready to commit her experience, work with the population and Government to make Lira a great city.
“I believe that with my experience, exposure and working together with the population of Lira City and government, we can ably transform our city into the city that we all desire,” she said.
“A new city needs a new leader with new skills. I am that leader who has been tried, tested and found able.”
Aceng based her campaign messages mainly on development, health, security and following up on the government pledges to the people of Lira City.
“A healthy and a productive population is imperative for development and health is going to be my top priority. We need to make everyone resourceful to participate in the development of our city,” she said.
She stressed that security is also important to enable the development plans to be executed well.
“As an MP of a big city like Lira, it is only stable security that can make all the good plans succeed, and through cooperating with the government security structures on the ground, we shall be able to reap the benefits,” she said.
