The Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence CMI on Saturday arrested and detained a police officer in charge of Kampala Central Police Station armory for allegedly stealing guns.
Police sources said that the guns, all pistols were discovered missing on 27th February and immediately investigations kicked off.
The suspect identified as SGT Mugungira Hannington is currently under CMI custody at special investigations unit in Kireka.
On Sunday, both CID and CPS spokespersons confirmed the arrest to chimp corps but declined to divulge more information.
However, sources revealed that during interrogations, the detained cop confessed to committing the crime.
It is said that Mugungira sold the three pistols to a private security company called Meastral Security Limited in Kampala.
Security sources also said that military intelligence arrested an official from Meastral Security Company to help in investigations.
Last year, Central Police armory was put on spotlight when reports emerged in the media that it’s in charge officers hire out guns to criminals.
