The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) His Lordship Mike J. Chibita has asked Ugandans to work together with the regulators and civil society in the fight against fake goods because they affect everybody equally.
Chibita says although there are government bodies, like Uganda Registration Service Bureau (URSB), Uganda Revenue Authority, UNBS among others that have been specifically put in place by Government of Uganda to fight goods, Ugandan consumers should also take it upon themselves to desist from buying fake goods if they want to survive the negative healthy and security consequences that come from consuming or using fake goods.
He was speaking at the World Intellectual Property Sub-Regional Workshop organised by URSB for enforcement officers at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Wednesday.
The workshop is intended to train and skill enforcement officers on how to effectively prosecute Intellectual Property/Patent Rights violators
Speaking at the same workshop, the secretary General URSB, Bemanya Twebaze urged producers to ensure that their products are officially registered with government so as to make the fight against fake goods easier.
