Former Proline Football Club holding midfielder Sam Kintu “Tiyo” has completed his move to Uganda Premier League new entrants Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) FC.
Kintu joins the Armyside as a free agent on a two-year deal after his contract with the Lugogo based side expired at the end of last season.
He played for Proline FC last season before the team was relegated to the FUFA Big League having finished 15th on the log by the time the league was ended abruptly due to COVID-19 pandemic.
He joins former teammates Simon Mbaziira, experienced defender Ronnie Kisekka, former KCCA and Proline midfielder Ibrahim Wammanah, and right back James Begesa as other players that quit Proline for the Bombo based side.
Other players that have joined the Kefa Kisala coached side include goalkeeper Tonny Kyamera, midfielder Gadafi Gadihno and defender Hassan Muhammad.
Last week, the club released over 10 players that included Fred Kalanzi, Sydney Ssenyonga, Junior Akena, Moses Kamya Mukwaya, Enock Omakira, Titus Lubega, Jose Maria Lubega, Davis Kamista, Godwin Kawaga, Abdul-Karim Kasule, Emmanuel Egau, Abasi Kiberu, Roger Milla Ahumuza and Tugume.
The club however retained goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo, Ronald Owinyi, Andrew Waiswa, Najib Tusaba, Christopher Kawuga, Denis Ssekitoleko (team captain), Robert Nakyenalire and winger Ezekiel Katende.
UPDF was automatically promoted to the Uganda Premier League after topping the Rwenzori group and will play MYDA FC to determine the overall FUFA Big League winner for the previous campaign.
