South Sudan vs Uganda

Juba stadium, 4pm

Uganda Cranes resumed training on Monday in preparation for the 2018 Championship of African Nations(CHAN) qualifier against South Sudan.

This came a day after losing to Western region select team on Saturday in the Cranes regional tour game in Kabaale.

Cranes head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic is confident the time he has between now and Friday is enough to rectify a few mistakes and also help the team jell together.

“I believe we have the time in these coming days to correct some of the mistakes we had in Kabaale,” Micho said.

“I have the confidence that the remaining time will help us create a strong bond between the players and have team chemistry.”

Asked about the strength of South Sudan and whether they stand a chance against Uganda, the Serbian tactician said he will not take things for granted.

“We are not underestimating our opponents. In football, there is no walk in the park. We played them (South Sudan) in 2015 in Juba and we drew 2-2.This is a competitive game that we are taking serious,” he claimed.

With seven players joining the national team camp from KCCA FC, the coach believes this gives the team a big boost.

“It is a good addition to the team; they have been playing competitively on the continent and have the necessary match fitness.”

Uganda takes on South Sudan this Friday at Juba stadium in the first leg of the 2018 CHAN qualifiers before the return leg at Star Times stadium a week later.

The winner between Uganda and South Sudan will take on either Rwanda or Tanzania in the final hurdle.

The 2018 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) will be hosted by neighbours, Kenya at the start of next year.
