Police have arrested six people in connection with the killing of a 31-year-old man in Kituuka village Pakanyi sub-county Masindi district over mercury deal.
It is alleged a one Joab Kyalisima claimed he had brought mercury from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and urgently needed buyers.
Kyalisiima was killed by unknown people on the 27th December 2018 over mercury deal and his lifeless body was later discovered in a maize plantation on Saturday by the people who were going to fetch water.
According to Samuel Odongo the District Police Commander Masindi, tragedy came after Kyalisiima failed to deliver mercury he had promised to the buyers adding that when he delivered it, the buyers realized that it was fake and the fracas started.
Odongo told our reporter that police arrested six people on the 29 December 2018 who included two police officers from Nabweru Police Station whose names were withheld.
The officer also declined to divulge the details of the civilian suspects to protect the integrity of the investigation.
He said police were in the process of bringing back the culprits to Masindi to face charges of murder, kidnap and arson.
Odongo said the father of the deceased was also released from Nansana Police Station and he has joined his family members.
Earlier on, it had been alleged that the father of the deceased had been kidnapped.
Odongo said the deceased was buried on Sunday at his ancestral home in Kituuka Village, Kihaguzi Parish Pakanyi sub-county Masindi district.
