Residents of Nombe 2B village in Kashari Parish Rubindi sub county Mbarara district were on Sunday engulfed in shock when a woman hacked seven of her family members to death.
According to police, a woman identified as Lydia Kyomuhangi aged 65, under unclear circumstances picked a panga and went on rampage killing all her family.
It is said that she first picked her grandchildren from their parents, sat them in the kitchen and bought them soda and biscuits.
She then proceeded to the main house where her husband identified as George Hangamisho was sleeping and severely cut him.
Police in a report also said that after cutting the husband, she went to another bedroom where she found her daughter a one Annet Kyomukama who she tied with a chain and cut her to death.
“She then returned to the kitchen and cut to death all the six grandchildren using the same panga and disappeared.” Police said
The deceased have been identified as Osbert Nuwamanya, 8, Oscar Tarimweba, 5, Mercy Owomugisha Baby girl of 6 months, Claire Ankunda, 5, Addela Orishaba a baby girl of 9 months and Apophia Kanshabe aged 10 years.
A team of detectives led by DPC Mbarara visited the scene and the bodies were taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for post mortem.
The seriously injured husband Mr George Hangamisho was also rushed to Mbarara Hospital for treatment.
In the report however, police said that the suspect has been suffering from “seasonal madness/mental disorder.”
While on the run, it has been confirmed this afternoon that a mob intercepted and killed her on spot.
