Ivan Kakooza, the founder of Nexus Bar and Restaurant in Najjera, Wakiso District, died of COVID-19, Chimp Reports has confirmed.
Medical personnel said Kakooza, who was admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital a fortnight ago, had showed signs of improvement but died suddenly on Thursday night.
“The COVID-19 patient (Kakooza) was in the High-Dependency Unit (HDU) for a long time,” said a medical official.
“His condition changed suddenly yesterday afternoon and later passed on.”
Two weeks ago, Kakooza felt unwell at his workplace before opting for a COVID-19 test which turned positive.
He was then taken to Mulago hospital with breathing difficulties.
He regularly received supplemental oxygen in the HDU – an area in a hospital located close to the intensive care unit, where patients can be cared for more extensively.
Kakooza’s death has left the entertainment industry in grief, with many praising his industriousness that saw him transform Nexus from a ‘kafunda’ to one of Uganda’s most prominent hangouts.
The signs of COVID-19 are fever, body weakness, cough, difficulty in breathing, loss of smell, loss of appetite and a sore throat.
Results of COVID-19 tests done on 07 October, 2020 confirm 182 new cases with 85 deaths. The cumulative confirmed cases are now 9,442.
