The army is hunting for Karimojong cattle rustlers who shot dead a medical doctor on Friday.
Dr Benson Otim, who works at Moroto Regional Referral Hospital, was shot at around 3pm in an ambush mounted by the Karimojong cattle rustlers in Turutuko, Lopei Sub County in Napak district.
The deceased was riding a motorcycle on Abim – Kotido road.
Mr Michael Ongicah, the Napak district police commander, said the killers took off with the deceased phone.
Mr Abubaka Lubega, the district resident commissioner, said the joint force of police and army are tracking the killers and they will be brought to book.
“Yes I can confirm a strange incident today in Napak district on Moroto, Kotido road where a staff of Moroto regional referral hospital
was shot dead by armed warriors on his way back home to check on his family, our security teams are already on the ground following the
killers,” he said.
Major Peter Mugisa the UPDF 3rd division Spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying the army was following the killers.
He said the incident should not cause alarm saying the army was in
control and that they were following the attackers.
