Grief engulfed Butebo District on Tuesday after a mechanic, who was driving the car belonging to Pallisa District Police Commander Diana Nyamisango, knocked dead a primary teacher.
The deceased teacher identified as Sam Gasibo, 42, a resident of Kaitisya village, Kakoro sub-county, was knocked dead at Kalaki trading centre along Pallisa-Kumi highway.
Mr Cyrus Omalla, the North Bukedi regional police commander, said that the mechanic who caused the accident was arrested.
He said that the mechanic after repairing the vehicle took it for road test but knocked deceased as he crossed the road on his motorcycle.
“He was knocked and fell on the tarmac but minutes later was pronounced dead. The relatives of the deceased had to hold the discussions with the DPC [owner of the vehicle] and the mechanic, and agreed to meet the burial expenses and which was done,” Mr Omalla said.
The deceased has been teaching at Kerekerene primary school in Budaka district.
Speaking at the burial of the deceased, Mr Paul Higenyi, the Budaka district education officer, said Gasibo will be missed by the whole district.
“He was a highly respected and beloved member of our staff who will be greatly missed by all his colleagues and pupils. Our sought and sincere sympathies go out to his family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time,” he said.
